In 2024, Punktum dk initiated a process with a public consultation on our administration model.

We have worked on the results of that consultation in our organization and board. On this basis, we have made the decision that Punktum dk will change its administration model, which means that registrant management will be discontinued.

In practice, this implies that the registrant management via Punktum dk will be discontinued as of July 1st, 2028. From July 1st, 2026, it will only be possible to register new .dk domain names with registrar management.

The shift from registrant management to registrar management will require changes in the requirements placed on registrars of .dk domain names.

Modification of registrar contract

On April 1st, 2026, all registrars will receive an updated registrar contract that will come into effect on July 1st, 2026, and which phases in the new administration model where registrant management is discontinued. After July 1st, 2026, you will only be able to register .dk domain names via the registrar management model.

Future registration of .dk domains

From July 1st, 2026, you can:

Only register new .dk domain names with registrar management
Only register and renew .dk domain names for one year at a time

This means that you as a registrar must be able to offer registrar management on newly registered domains from this date. The transitional arrangement for existing registrant managed .dk domain names runs until June 30th, 2028. Punktum dk will then decide how any residual group of registrants managed .dk-domain names will be handled.

In the period July 1st, 2026 – June 30th, 2028, registrants must choose a registrar to handle their .dk domain name.

Information for registrant managed registrants

Such a change is complicated and must be planned. We would love to have you involved in the entire process, just as we wanted to inform registrants about what this change will mean for them. We have now informed all registrant managed registrants. You can see the email we sent to them here.

For Punktum dk, this is quite a leap, and it has been underway for a long time and follows the development that was started back in 2017, when we opened up the possibility for registrars to enter into agreements on behalf of us as domain administrators and continued with the introduction of registrar management in 2021.

We know that this step has been desired by many of you. And now Punktum dk has taken it.

We will focus on how we will change this together in October, where we can discuss the plan together and reach an agreement so that from 2026, we can work on the operational.
